Preschool education

The aim of preschool education is to develop the knowledge of the diversity and unity of humans, nature and society, and the development of a humane, free and responsible personality. Children can start preschool education between the ages of one-and-a-half and seven. Preparation for primary education is compulsory for children from the age of five.

How do I enrol my child in preschool education (kindergarten)?

A child can be enrolled in a preschool education institution by applying to the municipal council, parish administration, education administration or pre-school education institution. You can also apply for a place at a municipal preschool education institution electronically at latvija.lv.
