The contemporary photography platform ISSP continues its series of photowalks designed specifically for international students studying at universities in Riga. The photowalks are an invitation to explore the city’s diverse neighborhoods in a creative way, discover lesser-known places, meet local people, and connect with fellow participants.

Registration is now open for Photo walk No. 6 – Dzirciems with Dāvis Drēziņš

The photowalk around Dzirciems, led by photographer Dāvis Drēziņš, invites participants to explore this distinctive Riga neighbourhood through photography, observation, and attentive walking. Beginning at the Botanical Garden, we will make our way through the streets and courtyards of Dzirciems towards Dzegužkalns, paying attention to the neighbourhood’s diverse architectural, social, and everyday environments.

We will be joined by guest playwright Diāna Kondraša, who will offer participants an opportunity to experience a fragment of the audio performance Never Disappearing Pārdaugavas by the collective “Miglājs DJV”. The performance delves into the underground electronic music scene of “the other side of the river”, introducing another layer of Pārdaugava’s cultural landscape.

The afternoon will conclude at the Museum Repository of the Literature and Music Museum, where participants will share photographs, impressions, and reflections from the walk in an informal setting.

During the photo walk, participants will be encouraged to capture their perspective of the neighborhood through photographs and short notes, which will later be used in a creative zine workshops and a collaboratively created exhibition and publication.

According to the programme objectives, the main audience is students from outside the EU. Latvians who wish to meet Riga newcomers are welcome to join! 

The photowalks are open to students of all disciplines; no prior photography experience is required.
