Riga Circus School launches a new project and invites everyone to an open day

Riga Circus School invites new participants to apply for the 2026/2027 academic year classes for children and youth groups. Children born outside the European Union who currently live or reside in Latvia are also welcome to apply; they will have the opportunity to participate in the project “Social Circus for the Integration of Children from Third Countries.” Visitors will be able to get acquainted with Riga Circus School at Zeļļu Street 25 and learn about the class offerings during the Open Day on 24 May from 11:00 to 14:00.

During the Open Day, visitors will be able to meet the trainers, try out various circus disciplines, and learn more about the classes, the application process, and the social circus project. Free registration for the Open Day: Eventbrite registration.

Riga Circus School director Ilze Tormane-Kļaviņa: “Riga Circus School was founded in 2017, and at first its activities consisted of only two Saturday classes. Today, the school offers an average of seven classes a day, six days a week, and regularly involves children, young people, and adults with very diverse experience. The social circus approach has been an important part of the school’s work since its beginnings. We are delighted that in the new academic year we will be able to develop this direction even further, creating an environment where children from different cultures can meet, collaborate, and feel a sense of belonging.”

In the classes, students will develop physical fitness, coordination, balance, creativity, and cooperation skills under the guidance of professional trainers, learning various circus disciplines – floor and aerial acrobatics, juggling, balance disciplines, and stage expression. The classes are intended both for children with no prior experience and for those who have already learned the basics of circus, dance, acrobatics, gymnastics, or other movement arts.

A special focus in the new academic year will be placed on the social circus approach, in which circus art is used not only as a tool for creative and physical development but also as a way to strengthen children’s self-confidence, sense of belonging, trust, and mutual cooperation. Social circus helps create a safe environment where children from different cultures can meet as equal participants, work together, and express their experiences. The project “Social Circus for the Integration of Children from Third Countries” will be implemented from 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2027. Its aim is to promote the inclusion of children from third countries and their families into Latvian society through social circus practice and various extracurricular activities that introduce Latvian culture. During the project, 25 children aged 7 to 14 from third countries will join the Riga Circus School classes. Together with peers, trainers, and professional artists, the children will also take part in a creative co-creation process, resulting in a circus performance to be presented to a wider audience in September 2027.
