Looking for a Job in Latvia: Where to Start?

Finding a job is one of the most important steps toward independence, stability, and integration when arriving in a new country. Latvia offers many resources and support services to help you begin your job search and prepare for the local labor market.
1. Prepare your CV and cover letter
To apply for a job in Latvia, you usually need a CV (resume) and a cover letter. These help employers understand your experience, skills, and motivation. If you’re unsure how to write them, One-Stop Agency consultants or Change Agents can help you create or adapt your documents.
2. Search for jobs on trusted job portals
The most popular job search platforms in Latvia include:
www.nva.gov.lv (State Employment Agency)
www.ss.lv (section “Vacancies”)
LinkedIn – especially useful for international companies
3. Register with the State Employment Agency (NVA)
If you have the right to work in Latvia, the NVA can offer job listings, career consultations, and free training or retraining opportunities. By registering as a job seeker, you may also qualify for additional government support.
4. Talk to a One-Stop Agency consultant
Through individual consultations, you can receive tailored advice, job search strategies, relevant vacancies, and help communicating with potential employers.
5. Improve your Latvian language skills
Many professions in Latvia require at least basic Latvian, especially in customer service, education, or healthcare. Even if your skills aren’t perfect, every step you take to improve the language increases your chances.
6. Don’t overlook alternative opportunities
If it’s difficult to find a job in your previous profession right away, consider starting with internships, volunteering, or part-time work. This helps build experience and professional contacts in Latvia.
7. Be patient and persistent
Job searching can take time, but determination and support from experienced consultants will help you move forward step by step.
Remember — you are not alone. Support is available, and with the right guidance and tools, you can find a job that matches your skills and aspirations.
