Car traffic in Latvia
A driver’s licence issued by any European Union country is valid in Latvia. If your licence is issued outside the European Union, the conditions for using it will be different.
Note!
- The maximum speed is 50 km/h in urban areas and 90 km/h outside urban areas.
- Low beam daytime running lights are mandatory for cars all year round.
- Winter tyres are compulsory from 1 December to 1 March, while studded tyres are banned from 1 May to 1 October.
- Drivers are not allowed to talk on the phone while driving, except when using a hands-free system.
