Commemoration and Support Events for Ukraine’s Civilians on 24 February in Latvia

On 24 February, four years will have passed since the beginning of Russia’s full‑scale invasion of Ukraine. On this day, commemorative and support events will take place in several cities across Latvia, inviting everyone to honour Ukraine’s civilians, express solidarity, and strengthen hope for peace.
Below is an overview of events happening in different Latvian cities.
Riga:
20:30 – Concert at the Latvian National Opera A concert titled “Help Evacuate Ukraine’s Defenders from Death” will take place at the Latvian National Opera. Latvian musicians and performing artists will unite to raise funds for the evacuation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers from the front line. Donations will support transport, ground drones, communication, energy supply and night‑vision solutions that help safely move the wounded to the next stage of medical assistance.

Support initiative “Together Until Victory” Rīga will also host activities of the broader support movement “Together Until Victory”, aimed at strengthening assistance for Ukraine’s defenders and encouraging public involvement. 📎 More information here.
Marupe:
18:00 – “Prayer for Peace. We Remember. Ukraine” The event will take place at the Business Embassy premises (Tīraine, Jelgavas ceļš 3). The programme includes conversations, life stories and musical performances. Organised in cooperation with the charity organisation Mārupes spārni. 📎 More information here.
Kuldiga:
Throughout the day, residents are invited to lay candles and flowers individually at the Town Hall Square in memory of the victims of the Ukrainian people. The Ukrainian flag will be raised at the municipal building as a symbol of unity.

Ventspils:
17:00 – “Song of Strength for Ukraine” A support event with musical performances and donation collection will take place at the Ventspils County Cultural Centre. Ukrainians living in Ventspils are especially invited to join and strengthen the sense of unity and belief in Ukraine’s victory.

Daugavpils:
18:00 – Gathering at Unity Square A public gathering in support of Ukraine will take place at Unity Square. Everyone is invited to light a candle and express solidarity.

12:00 – Ecumenical service An ecumenical service for peace in Ukraine will be held at St. Anna’s Pro‑Cathedral. More information here.
17:00 – Commemoration event in Jaunjelgava A remembrance event with musical performances and a shared moment of support will take place at the Jaunjelgava Culture House. Here.
Liepaja:
12:00-21:00, Support Day for Ukraine At the Liepāja Latvian Society House, visitors will be able to take part in practical support activities, weaving camouflage nets, making trench candles and creating “good thought” badges.
12:00 – Prayer and hymns At the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Ukrainian and Latvian national anthems will be performed, followed by a joint prayer for peace.
19:00 – Charity concert for Ukraine The day will conclude with a charity concert dedicated to Ukraine.
