Riga Neighborhoods Through the Lens: Photo Walks for International Students

The contemporary photography platform ISSP is launching a photowalk series designed specifically for international students studying in Riga universities. This is a great opportunity to explore Riga’s neighborhoods and meet new people in a creative and informal way!

Registrations are now open for Photo walk No. 2 – Torņakalns with Didzis Grozds

🗓️ Saturday, May 16, 14:00 – 18:00
📍 Meeting point – Gallery “Rāmis”

The photo walk will be led by the experienced photographer Didzis Grozds, who will guide participants not only through the interesting spots of Torņakalns but also its lesser-known corners. During the walk, there will be an opportunity to meet local representative Marta Rubīna and other neighborhood enthusiasts, who will share their experiences of local activities and events. The walk will conclude with participants sharing their photographs and reflections over a warm cup of tea at the Jānis Akuraters Museum, while also getting to know the poet’s home and its authentic interior.

During the photo walk, participants will be encouraged to capture their perspective of the neighborhood through photographs and short notes, which will later be used in a creative zine workshop and a collaboratively created exhibition and publication.

Why join?

  • Discover Riga’s neighborhoods in a creative, non-traditional way;
  • Get to know top Latvian photographers, local community members, unique projects and spots;
  • Practice street and documentary photography in natural light;
  • Meet and connect with new people through shared exploration;
  • Take part in a community arts project and a future exhibition.

The project is supported by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and Latvian State budget, promoting innovative and inclusive approaches to integration of third countries’ citizens. According to the programme objectives, some places are reserved for students from outside the EU, but Latvian colleagues are welcome to join as well! The photowalks are open to students of all disciplines – no prior photography experience is required.
